Tercon Ltd to raise funds for the 1625 Independent People charity
Tercon Ltd is very pleased to announce its involvement in supporting the 1625 Independent People charity over the next twelve months.
1625 Independent People has been supporting 16-25 year olds in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North-East Somerset who are either homeless or at risk of being, for over 35 years.
Their services range from preventing homelessness through advice, education and skills work, through to intensive one-to-one support for up to two years.
The main causes of youth homelessness are family breakdown and the lack of affordable and safe housing in Bristol for young people.
Many of the young people 1625ip support have experienced significant trauma, disrupted education and as children, they lacked consistent, positive relationships with parents or carers.
1625ip support around 2000 young people each year in the South West of England.
There has been a 34% rise in the number of referrals to their services last year compared with the previous year highlightingthe need for sustainable, local services to ensure young people can access the support they need and when they need it the most.
Young people who are homeless or at risk of being have very specific and varying needs and the specialist support workers play an essential role in supporting young people to live a more independent life, with the vital day-to-day life skills, knowledge and support including:
- Developing healthy and trusting relationships with their families, peers and in the community.
- Providing support with young people’s emotional and mental health.
- Providing budgeting advice and support to help young people in areas such as debt, bank accounts, savings, mobile phone contracts, benefits and more.
- Providing support and advice so young people can access and sustain education, training and employment.
- Linking young people to other services, supporting young people to access other services they need, including specialist health and advice services.
